Size: The ideal Ragdoll is a well balanced cat, with no extreme features. Altered males will usually top the scale at 15-20 pounds; females are proportionately smaller and usually weigh between 10-15 pounds at maturity. Ragdolls are slow-maturing, reaching full coat color at two years, and full size and weight at four.
Temperament & Personality: They have a very gentle and intuitive nature, and make loyal and dedicated pets. With a humble, calm and floppy nature.
Activity Requirements: This breed is less active than most other cats and does not roam the road. Although these cats generally get enough exercise to hang around the house, keep in mind that they do not take too much amounts to prevent unhealthy weight. This breed is best with 10-20 minutes/day play time exercise or training.
Breed Traits: Ragdoll cats lack survival instinct. Must be kept indoors and crave companionship. They must not be left alone for long periods. This breed must be handled carefully to avoid injury to the animal
Diet: 1/4 to 1/3 cup per feeding up to about 8 wks. 1/3 cup to 3/4 cup per feeding up to 6 months and beyond, depending on weight. Research shows that adult cats need a minimum of 26 percent protein in their diet.
Grooming Requirements: Require weekly grooming to keep its striking coat in good condition. If the grooming process is started as a kitten they soon become used to it and enjoy the attention it brings. Daily attention will prevent a build up of knots and the fight that comes to remove tangles and matts from a neglected coat. Brush the teeth to prevent periodontal disease. Daily dental hygiene is best, but weekly brushing is better than nothing. Trim the nails weekly.
Colors: The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a different color coat. It is a large and muscular semi-long heart cat with a soft and silky coat. Seal, Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, Red and Cream. Eyes: Blue, large, oval, moderately wide-set, outer aperture to fall in line with base of ear.
History: The first Ragdoll kittens were born in California in the 1960’s. They are probably the result of a mating between a white Persian queen (female) and a Birman or Birman-type tom. When picked up the cat becomes very relaxed and is as floppy as the ragdoll from which it takes its name. There are some that say that this was brought about by an accident the queen had whilst carrying the kittens but it is genetically impossible for the effects of the injury to be inherited by the kittens. The more realistic believe that many cats act in this way when they trust their owners and that the Ragdoll is a particularly trusting breed.
